This move, which comes after multiple Al Jazeera journalists have been killed covering events in Gaza, effectively codifies censorship. that consistently provides on-the-ground reporting from areas other outlets often can't — or won't — access. This isn't surprising for a government that has bombed Al Jazeera's Gaza offices (May 2021) and systematically targeted journalists in the region, including Shireen Abu Akleh (May 2022) and Hamza Al-Dahdouh (January 2024). Extending the ban signals less a concern for 'security' and more a
policy of eliminating documentation of alleged war crimes. When your actions are indefensible, you must make the filming of them illegal. How can a nation claim to be a democracy while actively suppressing the free press?
