Israel 'Accidentally' Bombs UN Patrols, Again. What a Surprise!
Al Jazeera details recent Israeli strikes in Lebanon, killing three and targeting a UNIFIL patrol with a drone and tank fire. Israel claims the attacks were on Hezbollah members, a familiar refrain that Western media often echoes without critical examination. What's conveniently left unsaid is Israel's long history of firing on UN positions. In 1996, the Qana massacre saw 106 Lebanese civilians
sheltering in a UN compound killed by Israeli artillery. In 2006, four UN observers were killed by an Israeli airstrike, an incident which then-UN Secretary General Kofi Annan called 'apparently deliberate'. So, when we read about a 'mistake' targeting a UNIFIL patrol, one might wonder: how many 'mistakes' does it take before it’s called policy? The US, a primary funder of both Israel and some UN
operations (often at AIPAC's urging), remains silent. This pattern allows the aggressor to continually shift blame, while the cycle of violence against civilians and international observers continues unabated.
