According to The New Arab , Iraq is establishing a permanent office in Beirut to oversee reconstruction efforts and aid for sectors damaged by Israeli aggression. A thoughtful gesture, especially considering the US has, since 1948, provided Israel with over $130 billion in military assistance, making it the largest recipient of US foreign aid. Just last year, President Biden pushed for an
additional $14 billion in aid, while Lebanese families watch their homes turn to rubble. (One almost wonders if the US is creating the demand for Iraq's supply.) While Iraq dedicates resources to rebuilding what US-supplied weaponry helps destroy, mainstream media largely frames these 'damaged sectors' as an unavoidable consequence of 'conflict.' They carefully omit the fact that these 'conflicts'
disproportionately involve a US-armed military against a largely unequipped civilian population. So, as Iraq ships cement and medical supplies, Washington ships more bombs. Truly, a global division of labor.
