But while news outlets trumpet this isolated victory, the much larger, systemic state violence against children in Gaza—funded by the U.S. and facilitated by a complicit media—barely registers the same level of 'concern.' massacred by US-supplied munitions in Gaza since October 7, 2023, while Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin quietly authorized a $1 billion arms package, including tank rounds, just weeks ago ( Pentagon Statement, March 29, 2024 ). We laud Iran for freeing one child from a death sentence, yet remain silent on thousands of children enduring death sentences delivered by F-16s. One might wonder if the
'international concern' we demonstrate is less about universal human rights and more about strategic optics. The selective outrage, the dramatic headlines for one and the quiet approvals for billions in weapons for the other: it seems 'child' is just another variable in the endless geopolitical equation.
