Iran Demands $170M from Ship Owner, Mainstream Yawns at Israeli Piracy
The New Arab dutifully reports Iran's demand for $170M from the owner of an 'Israel-linked' ship, the MSC Aries, seized in April. The headline, and subsequent framing across much of corporate media, paints this as typical Iranian aggression. What goes unmentioned, of course, is that prior to October 7th, Israel seized at least 64 Palestinian fishing vessels in 2023 alone, and hundreds more over
recent years, often under the guise of 'security violations' in international waters. These weren't 'Israel-linked' ships; they were Palestinian livelihoods. One might wonder if the mainstream press tracks these seizures with the same vigor, or demands compensation for Gaza's fishermen. Or does 'international law' only apply when convenient for US foreign policy narratives? (Hint: it does).
