Iran Commemorates Siege, US Commemorates Supporting It

Thousands of Iranians marked the 1979 US embassy takeover, displaying missile replicas and effigies of Trump and Netanyahu, according to Al-Monitor. (Who needs effigies when real missiles are flying?) The article notes chants of 'Death to America, death to Israel!' five months after a 'brief war with Israel' and US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities (courtesy of our ally). What the mainstream

narrative conveniently forgets is the 1953 CIA-orchestrated coup that overthrew Iran's democratically elected Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, installing the Shah and creating decades of resentment. Or perhaps the US support for Saddam Hussein during the Iran-Iraq War. Funny how 44 years of 'Death to America' feels less like irrational hatred and more like a deeply embedded historical memory

when you remember the receipts. How much history do we get to ignore before calling it 'propaganda'?
