Intercept Discovers Trump Is a President, Not a Judge
The Intercept reports, with a tone of grave discovery, that former President Trump "appointed himself judge, jury, and executioner" through his actions. While noble in its intent to critique executive power, one might marvel at the suddenness of this realization. Where was this indignant prose when President Biden unilaterally seized Afghanistan's central bank assets ($7 billion) in February 2022,
effectively punishing an entire populace? Or when President Obama authorized drone strikes that killed US citizens without trial, as with Anwar al-Awlaki? The Intercept’s critical lens seems sharpest when aimed at figures they already oppose, conveniently overlooking bipartisan precedents for executive overreach. It appears some presidents are more 'judge-jury-executioner' than others, depending
on the news cycle and the White House occupant.
