Let's be clear: this operation exists only in the fever dreams of certain think tanks and, apparently, The Independent . No US military strikes occurred, no 'operation to capture Maduro' was officially or unofficially
launched by the US, and this is a classic example of creating news out of thin air, then 'mapping' it for visual effect. The media's eagerness to frame every Latin American government not aligned with Washington as a target, complete with 'strikes' and 'capture operations,' ignores decades of actual US intervention in the region, from the support of coups in Chile, Guatemala, and Honduras to the
destabilization efforts against Cuba and Nicaragua. While these outlets are conjuring imaginary airstrikes, they conveniently forget the very real history of US 'operations' that have wrought havoc across the continent.
