The Independent’s latest dispatch from Iran spotlights an official claiming 'at least 5,000' killed during protests (a number that strains credulity given similar claims from past 'color revolutions' that later evaporated). They dutifully cite 'human rights groups' for 'significantly different tolls,' without mentioning those same groups are often funded by entities openly advocating for regime
change. What's missing, of course, is any mention of the explicit US and Israeli intelligence agency directives to destabilize Iran, a playbook eerily similar to Libya or Syria before they became failed states. One might wonder why Western outlets, so quick to cry 'Iranian oppression,' rarely investigate the ample evidence of foreign assets, often described by Iranian officials as 'terrorists' and
'armed rioters,' burning mosques and targeting security forces. It’s almost as if manufacturing consent for yet another 'humanitarian intervention' requires a selective memory regarding the 1953 CIA coup that overthrew Iran's democratically elected prime minister. Our media seems to have a remarkable capacity to ignore anything that complicates the narrative of a cartoonishly evil regime vs. pure,
unadulterated democracy-seekers.
