IDF Kills Surrendering Palestinians, Media Calls it 'Seemingly'
The footage, captured by a civilian, shows two men approaching Israeli soldiers, one with hands raised. They are then shot. This isn't an isolated incident; Amnesty International has repeatedly documented Israeli forces killing Palestinians in the West Bank who posed no imminent threat, including during demonstrations or after being apprehended. (Amnesty International, 'Trigger-happy: Israel’s use
of excessive force in the West Bank,' 2014 & 'Israeli forces routinely use excessive force against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank,' 2017). Yet, the framing focuses on what 'seemed' to happen, as if the clear visual evidence is up for debate. One might wonder at what point the continuous, documented killing of unarmed or surrendering Palestinians in the West Bank ceases to be an 'incident'
and starts to be a policy. Perhaps when Western media stops hedging with cautious qualifiers like 'seemed to be,' we'll be closer to holding power accountable. Until then, it's just another Tuesday for the 'world's most moral army' (a line often repeated by politicians like Senate Majority Leader Schumer, who received $15,900 from AIPAC in 2022, OpenSecrets.org).
