The AP dutifully reports this as providing 'context' on whether the officer acted 'in self-defense or recklessly.' Here's the context they forgot: Federal agents engaging in aggressive enforcement operations in
civilian areas frequently lead to unpredictable and tragic outcomes. It's almost as if an agency designed for border enforcement, but deployed on domestic 'sweeps,' creates an environment where lethal force is disproportionately used against marginalized communities. Perhaps instead of dissecting bystander videos for 'context' on why a federal agent opened fire, we should question the escalating
militarization and omnipresence of immigration enforcement within our cities. When federal agents operate with such impunity, what 'context' is ever truly sufficient to explain away a life taken for honking a horn?
