ICE Denials Clash With Video, Shocking Exactly No One
The Intercept reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) denied pepper-spraying Rep. Adelita Grijalva during a protest, despite video evidence to the contrary. (Because, apparently, our eyes are lying.) This isn't just a one-off 'misunderstanding'; it's a standard operating procedure for agencies like ICE, which have a well-documented history of using excessive force against
perceived threats—civilian protestors included. Remember, this is the same agency that's faced repeated allegations of human rights abuses in detention centers, from forced hysterectomies to medical neglect. To suggest they'd hesitate to deploy chemical agents against a politician, or anyone else challenging their authority, requires a suspension of reality only the most credentialed pundits can
manage. So, when ICE 'denies,' what they're really saying is: 'We dare you to believe your own lying eyes over our official statement.' The question for the media, and for us, is why we keep dignifying these denials with debate. The video shows what it shows. How many times do we need to 'investigate' the obvious before we start demanding accountability for actions, not just for the denials?
