While it's a step up from blaming individual moral failings, this framing conveniently sidesteps how housing became 'unaffordable' in the first place.
Perhaps they forgot decades of deregulation, the shredding of zoning laws, and the financialization of housing, where Wall Street (and their funded politicians) turned shelter into a speculative asset. When corporations buy up entire neighborhoods, then jack up prices, it’s not an act of nature. It's policy. Your tax dollars, meanwhile, are not going to build affordable housing, but instead flow
freely into endless wars and corporate handouts. Funny how we always find money for bombs, but never for a roof over someone's head.
