According to The Hill, DHS is deploying hundreds of agents to Louisiana to address an 'influx' of migrants. This expansion of federal resources into states far from the actual border (Louisiana shares no land border with any other country, let alone Mexico) highlights the elastic nature of 'border security.' While headlines loudly proclaim a southern border 'crisis,' the response often appears
less about national security and more about political optics or, perhaps, a selective application of enforcement. This move conveniently shifts enforcement inland, where the human rights struggles of asylum seekers are less visible to international media scrutiny. One might ask why similar fervor isn't applied to other pressing domestic issues, or why the 'crisis' expands only when certain
demographics are involved. The prioritization of resources seems to track less with actual border geography and more with political convenience, neatly sidestepping the root causes of migration.
