Homeland Security: Protecting Borders, Unmasking Democracy

The mainstream media breathlessly covers DHS agents allegedly donning horror masks in Los Angeles, focusing on the bizarre visual. But the far more terrifying revelation is the continued normalization of federal agents operating with impunity and—quite literally—faceless anonymity domestically. These are the same agencies whose budgets balloon while our public services shrink. Instead of

questioning why Homeland Security is playing dress-up in LA, perhaps we should ask why their budgets, alongside other intelligence and defense agencies, are consistently secured by politicians who happily take defense contractor cash . While citizens are urged to 'see something, say something,' the federal government prefers its enforcers to be unidentifiable. What's more frightening? A Halloween

mask, or the ever-expanding reach of an unelected, unaccountable bureaucracy, cloaked in secrecy, with a budget that dwarfs investments in healthcare or housing?
