Homeland Security Deported Student, US Media Yawns
Any Lucia Lopez Belloza, 19, was intercepted by immigration officials at Boston Logan Airport and deported to Honduras, violating a court order, according to her attorney Todd Pomerleau (The Guardian World). This incident marks just one in a long, storied history of US border agencies acting with impunity, routinely circumventing legal due process when it comes to non-white immigrants. While our
politicians thunder about 'border security' and fund an ever-expanding deportation apparatus, the supposed 'rule of law' seems to be a selective luxury. One might wonder if the same zealous enforcement would apply if a US citizen were stripped of their rights on foreign soil. The silence from Congressional leaders, many of whom readily approve hefty immigration enforcement budgets, is deafening.
Perhaps they're too busy debating aid packages to countries that use their own populations as political pawns to notice the pawns right here at home.
