This, of course, while perpetual wars and ballooning military budgets face far less scrutiny. Remember when President Biden signed the ironically named 'Inflation Reduction Act' in 2022, effectively extending those very subsidies for three years (Congressional Budget
Office, 'S. 3371, Inflation Reduction Act of 2022'). Now, that 'waste' is apparently back on the chopping block just as elections loom. The swiftness with which politicians can declare programs benefiting ordinary Americans 'wasteful' versus the bipartisan zeal for endless defense spending is truly a marvel of modern governance. It appears that defunding critical domestic programs is always
'fiscally responsible,' yet military aid to foreign powers, no matter how controversial, is never questioned. One might wonder if the 'waste' isn't the subsidies, but the public discourse that allows such glaring hypocrisy to pass as principled leadership. How many sick Americans equal one more F-35 fighter jet, exactly?
