One might ask, what 'guarantees' did the Palestinians receive then, other than continued expropriation and blockade, leading to groups like Hamas gaining popular support? Instead of addressing the root causes of resistance, the narrative continually centers on 'Hamas must disarm,'
conveniently ignoring the structural violence and lack of a sovereign state. It's almost as if some believe the dispossessed should simply vanish quietly. The audacity of wanting an end to war and a recognized homeland is, for certain media outlets, less a negotiation point and more an act of insolence. How many times must a population be promised peace and statehood before they stop asking?
