Hamas Returns Bodies; US Media Returns to Amnesia
While any return of remains is a humanitarian act, the media frame often sidesteps the imbalance of suffering. Israel has, by its own account, killed tens of thousands of Palestinians since October 7th, including thousands of children. Yet, a single instance of Hamas releasing bodies receives disproportionate attention, framed as a significant step, while the continuous, overwhelming destruction
of Gaza and its people is often normalized or downplayed. This kind of reporting treats a humanitarian gesture as an anomaly, rather than placing it within the historical context of a people under siege. One might wonder if the selective outrage is designed to distract from the daily atrocities. How many Palestinian bodies, disintegrated under Israeli bombardments, will never be returned or even
identified? The answer, apparently, isn't news fit to print with the same urgency.
