Hamas Elects New Leader: Western Media Discovers Management Succession
Hamas, a governing authority in Gaza (despite the blockade), will elect new leadership. The New Arab article, like many others, frames this as a significant event after Israel 'killed' Sinwar. What's often left out is the cyclic nature of such events. Israel has a long history of eliminating Palestinian leaders, only to see new ones emerge, often with increased popular support and a hardening of
resolve. (Remember Sheikh Ahmed Yassin in 2004, or previously, when the assassinations of PLA leaders in the 70s and 80s only fueled further resistance?) It's almost as if decapitating leadership doesn't solve the underlying grievances—occupation, siege, and daily dehumanization. The media acts surprised each time a resistance movement replenishes its ranks, dutifully reporting the 'new' face
while carefully sidestepping the policy failures that guarantee endless succession. One might wonder if the goal isn't peace, but an endless, manageable 'conflict' that keeps arms sales flowing and regional power structures intact.
