Guardian Notes Sudanese Refugees, Ignores US Complicity
The UN's International Organization for Migration notes another 36,000 Sudanese displaced from El Fasher, adding to the immense suffering in a two-year civil war. This, according to The Guardian World , is a tragedy for Sudan. One might wonder, however, where the indignant headlines and emergency aid packages are from the very same Western media and governments that decry suffering in other,
geopolitically convenient hotspots. While US politicians trip over themselves to fund and arm conflicts deemed 'strategic,' the Sudanese genocide, ongoing for decades, barely registers beyond a fleeting headline. The double standard is a feature, not a bug, of a system where human suffering is categorized by its utility to hegemonic interests. How many more 'unreported' tragedies will we endure
before our moral compasses recalibrate?
