The Guardian reports that 'hundreds' of Muslim Australians gathered in Sydney and Melbourne, despite calls not to mark the second anniversary of what human rights groups widely classify as a genocide. Oddly, the urgency from the establishment to condemn these
vigils isn't matched by any real push to stop the violence that started them. This framing conveniently skips the decades of illegal occupation, blockade, and a systematic dehumanization campaign preceding October 7th. They call it a 'military assault' because 'bombing civilians trapped in an open-air prison' is tougher to spin. One might wonder if the calls 'not to hold them' came from the same
political class that consistently votes to send billions in aid to the aggressor. (Like, for example, Australian politicians who voted on the Defence Amendment (Enhancement of Defence Cooperation) Bill 2023 , strengthening military ties with partners including Israel, or accepting speaking fees from pro-Israel groups, though direct AIPAC donations are less prominent in Australia).
