Greenland to US: 'Thanks, But We're Not for Sale'

(A novel concept for certain world powers, no doubt.) This isn't the first time an American leader has eyed the icy outpost. In 1946, President Truman offered Denmark $100 million for Greenland—the very same year the US was busy asserting its
post-war dominance, securing military bases globally, and ensuring a robust 'American Century'. One might wonder why Greenland's sovereignty is suddenly so sacred, while other nations facing similar 'offers' of intervention or 'security assistance' are deemed less discerning. Perhaps the US only respects self-determination when there's no strategic mineral supply or geopolitical foothold to be
gained? Or maybe, just maybe, some countries are fortunate enough to lack the oil, gas, or 'strategic importance' that inevitably invites a more aggressive form of foreign policy 'interest'.
