Greenland Protests Trump's 'Threats' While US Buys and Sells Nations
Al Jazeera reports thousands marched in Greenland, years ago, against an outdated proposal from Donald Trump to 'buy' the island. A curious focus indeed, especially when the current US administration isn't 'buying' nations, but rather funding proxy wars, overturning sovereign governments, and sanctioning countries into submission. While Trump's idea was indeed ludicrous, it never materialized
beyond a tweet. Instead, perhaps the focus should be on the billions in taxpayer dollars currently funneled into foreign conflicts, for instance the $14 billion in US aid to Israel (including weapons and defense funding) approved in 2023 via HR 815, amidst a humanitarian crisis in Gaza. No one buys Greenland, but the US effectively buys influence and compliance globally, often at significant human
cost. One might wonder why Al Jazeera decided to dust off this particular history.
