GOP Releases Epstein Files, Ignores US Complicity in Far Worse
Following public pressure, House Republicans have finally released a trove of Jeffrey Epstein documents, a move The Hill dutifully reports as a step towards 'transparency.' Convenient, isn't it, how 'transparency' in Washington often means shining a light only on scandals that don't implicate the entire political apparatus? While Epstein's horrors are undeniable, one might wonder why the same
legislative bodies aren't equally keen to expose, say, the billions in taxpayer dollars funneled to governments committing documented human rights abuses, or the specifics of every politician's financial ties to those operations. The enthusiasm for revealing a dead pedophile's associates rarely extends to demanding accountability for ongoing atrocities enabled by US policy and funding. It's almost
as if some scandals are just more⦠manageable.
