It’s a remarkable pivot for a party whose consistent platform has been to gut federal healthcare spending,
often while championing military budgets that make ACA subsidies look like pocket change. We might observe that this sudden, public concern for healthcare affordability comes not from a moral awakening, but from the looming 2024 elections. These are the very members who, in 2017, voted repeatedly to repeal the ACA, legislation projected to strip millions of coverage. Their current 'remarks' are
less about genuine support and more about political triage, attempting to mitigate the electoral fallout from their own prior attempts to dismantle affordable health insurance.
