But is it truly dysfunction, or is it working precisely as designed by those who benefit from its selective
enforcement? When the International Criminal Court attempts to issue arrest warrants for leaders like Netanyahu for alleged war crimes (which ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan sought on May 20, 2024), the 'dysfunction' manifests as immediate US backlash and threats. When Israel faces UN resolutions (like UNGA Res. A/ES-10/L.27 on Dec 12, 2023, demanding a ceasefire), the 'dysfunction' is a US veto.
This isn't breakdown; it's a meticulously maintained system of impunity, underwritten by financial and political patronage, especially from groups like AIPAC, which spent over $30 million in 2022 lobbying Congress to protect such 'dysfunction.' The global system only 'breaks down' when it threatens the powerful. For everyone else, it works perfectly.
