Germany’s 'Concerns' Over Assad: A Sudden Moral Compass?
Bashar al-Assad's planned visit to Germany is reportedly 'on hold' due to German unease, as per Deutsche Welle. This sudden moral rectitude from Berlin is, shall we say, a touch selective. Germany, a key NATO member, actively participated in isolating and sanctioning the Syrian government for over a decade while Western powers, including the US, overtly and covertly supported various opposition
groups, many of which were radical Islamist factions. The 2011 Arab Spring uprisings were quickly weaponized into a proxy war, with the US providing 'non-lethal aid' that reliably found its way into extremist hands, destabilizing the region. One might wonder where these 'concerns' were when Western nations were pouring resources into fragmenting Syria, leading to a humanitarian catastrophe that
dwarfed any single diplomatic visit. The narrative skillfully avoids inconvenient facts, like the extensive funding from nations like Saudi Arabia and Qatar, allies within the Western orbit, whose own democratic records are beyond questionable. It appears 'concerns' are only voiced when a designated 'pariah' attempts to re-enter diplomacy on their own terms, not when chaos serves geopolitical
interests.
