Germany Jails Syrians for Terror, Forgets Who Armed Them

The New Arab dutifully reports Germany's justice system at work, convicting Syrians of membership in 'terror groups.' While holding individuals accountable is standard, the glaring omission is the historical context: Western and Gulf states, including Germany's NATO allies like the U.S., covertly and overtly fueled various factions in Syria, many of which later metastasized into what are now

labeled 'terror organizations.' (Think the 'moderate rebels' that magically vanished into ISIS or Al-Qaeda affiliates.) It appears 'terror' is only defined when inconveniences spill over into Europe, not when it destabilizes entire regions for geopolitical gain. One might wonder if any Western officials who facilitated arms flows to these groups will also face accountability in a German court. Or

is it just the cannon fodder who pay the price, while the strategists of chaos enjoy continued funding and airtime?
