Gaza Partition: 'Temporary' Like Every Other Land Grab
This framing, however, gently sidesteps the inconvenient history where every 'temporary' Israeli division, every 'security zone,' unfailingly ossifies into a permanent annexation. From the West Bank's ever-expanding settlements, facilitated by successive Israeli governments and ignored by compliant US administrations, to the annexation of the Golan Heights, the playbook is tiresomely familiar.
When does a 'de facto' situation simply become 'fact,' especially when aided by unconditional US support and billions in annual military aid? We saw this strategy with the 1948 armistice lines, the 1967 occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, and even the so-called 'separation barrier.' Each was presented as a functional, temporary necessity. One might wonder, how many times do we watch the same
film before recognizing the plot twist?
