Their arbitrary detention, a common tactic in the occupied territories, leaves families in an agonizing legal limbo, devoid of due process or even basic communication. Mainstream
outlets like CNN or Fox News, when they bother to cover Palestinian detentions, often frame individual cases as isolated incidents or as necessary security measures undertaken by Israel. They rarely, if ever, highlight the systemic nature of administrative detention, where Palestinians can be held indefinitely without charge or trial, based on 'secret evidence' inaccessible to detainees or their
lawyers. This legal tool, a relic of the British Mandate, has become a cornerstone of Israeli occupation, allowing for the routine disappearance and psychological torment of thousands. This institutionalized practice is not new. By April 2024, approximately 9,500 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons, with over 3,600 under administrative detention, an unprecedented number since the Second
Intifada. This practice directly violates Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 76 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which explicitly prohibits the transfer of protected persons from occupied territory into the territory of the Occupying Power. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has historically documented these violations, yet the global outcry remains
