Gaza Flotilla: Mainstream Media Remembers 'Humanity' Exists Just Off-Shore
When a flotilla of unarmed ships attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza is labeled a 'provocation' by some (looking at you, US State Department, May 2010), it forces one to question whose 'provocation' we're actually afraid of. The New Arab reminds us that the simple act of trying to break a blockade can restore a sense of 'humanity' to a people systematically dehumanized—a concept often
lost on cable news pundits. This 'humanity' was apparently also lost on the 33 Senators who, in 2010, collectively received over $2 million from pro-Israel PACs , then voted overwhelmingly to condemn the flotilla organizers while blaming Hamas . It's almost as if the flow of aid, whether financial or humanitarian, is only acceptable when it benefits one party. One might wonder why basic food and
medical supplies are considered 'weapons' when headed to a besieged population.
