Gaza Clinic gets Popemobile, US gets another $14B to bombs
The New Arab reports a Popemobile from Pope Francis's 2014 Bethlehem visit is now a mobile clinic for Gaza's children. A noble endeavor, especially for kids suffering from malnourishment and trauma. Yet, while the Vatican repurposes vehicles, the U.S. Congress prepares to greenlight another $14 billion in aid to Israel, a significant portion of which funds the very military operation causing
Gaza's humanitarian crisis. (Source: The New Arab/US Foreign Aid Summaries). This is the international community's version of 'thoughts and prayers' — a shiny, repurposed ambulance for the thousands already injured or displaced, while the funding for the weapons creating the injuries flows uninterrupted. One might wonder if a repurposed Popemobile is meant to soothe global conscience, considering
the U.S. just signed off on sending more bombs, not more clinics. The irony, as always, is deafening.
