Gaza City's Rubble: 'Withdrawal' or Just Resupplying the Wrecking Ball?
As Israeli forces 'withdraw' to regroup, we're told of Gaza City's devastation. The New Arab notes the 'extent of the devastation to residential areas.' (They call it 'news,' as if this is a surprise.) This 'withdrawal' follows a pattern as predictable as the blank checks funding it. Remember the 2014 assault, or 2012, or 2008-09? Each time, the same destruction, the same calls for
'reconstruction'—often using US taxpayer dollars—only to be flattened again. While headlines gasp at the ruins, ask about the votes. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), a vocal proponent of Israeli military aid, has received over $450,000 from pro-Israel groups (including AIPAC) in the last five years, according to OpenSecrets.org. (He also voted for the $14 billion in aid to Israel in February, 2024.)
When you see images of Gaza's destruction, know that many of those who enabled it will lament the 'tragedy' while collecting their next donation. It's not a war; it's a remarkably efficient cycle of destruction and subsidy.
