if the affected populations were not non-white and non-European. One might wonder if the Financial Times would dedicate similar column inches to concerns about the deliberate demographic cleansing in Gaza, currently experiencing unprecedented levels of forced displacement and systematic destruction of life. Or does 'demography' only become a 'plot' when it threatens the comfortable status quo of
Western capitals, rather than the existence of entire populations under siege? Priorities, apparently, are a matter of geography and skin tone.
