France Accuses Booking.com Over Illegal Settlements, UN Silent
French activists are dragging Airbnb and Booking.com to court for listing properties in illegal Israeli settlements, labeling it 'occupation tourism.' This comes mere months after the UN Human Rights Office identified 112 businesses directly involved in or profiting from Israel's settlements—territories deemed illegal under international law, a fact conveniently sidestepped by most major news
outlets when discussing the 'conflict.' The UN itself, which produced this report detailing violations of the Fourth Geneva Convention, has done little more than file it away, despite its own findings. So, while French courts ponder whether to fine companies for facilitating illegal bookings, the actual illegality of the settlements themselves, and the entities actively sustaining them, remains
largely beyond reproach for those with actual power. It begs the question: How many 'human rights reports' does it take before international law actually applies to everyone, or is it just a suggestion for certain states?
