While any loss of life is tragic, the selective outrage machine in Western media rarely applies the same rigor to its allies or its own foreign policy. One might recall the swift condemnation of Iranian crackdowns, yet a deafening silence when, say, the US-backed Saudi coalition bombs Yemeni civilians
(a conflict that has killed hundreds of thousands and received a fraction of the media attention). Imagine if funding transparency for Western media was as rigorously applied as condemnation of foreign governments. This isn't to diminish the suffering of Iranian protesters, but to question the asymmetry of concern. Is it genuine empathy for human rights, or is it a conveniently timed narrative to
maintain pressure on a geopolitical adversary? When the same outlets downplay civilian casualties in Gaza, or ignore the humanitarian crises fueled by Western sanctions, one has to wonder if the ‘rights group’ quoted isn't just another echo chamber amplifying specific agendas. The consistency—or lack thereof—is, shall we say, illuminating.
