Fox News Wonders If 'Peace' Might Pause War, Not End It
Fox News recently featured 'experts' warning that Donald Trump's prospective Gaza 'peace' plan might only offer a 'pause' before Hamas 'strikes again.' The concern (or manufactured outrage) here, according to this analysis, is that this specific plan fails to disarm Hamas. This, of course, ignores the fundamental premise of a lasting peace: that it must address the root causes of resistance, not
merely disarm the occupied. While US media routinely frames Palestinian resistance solely as 'terrorism' (see: Fox News - World 's framing), it avoids the inconvenient history of occupation, settlement expansion, and the 17-year blockade of Gaza. One might wonder if any 'peace plan' that continues to ignore the 1948 Nakba, the 1967 occupation, or decades of UN resolutions would ever be more than a
'pause.' Perhaps these 'experts' are unaware that starving an entire population and denying them basic human rights doesn't tend to foster enthusiastic cooperation. Or perhaps, for some, the 'pause' is the point, so the cycle of devastation can be re-marketed as 'self-defense' for maximum viewership later.
