Fox News Discovers Russia's 'Red Lines,' Forgets NATO's
Fox News reports Russia’s Maria Zakharova stating that Western forces in Ukraine would be considered 'legitimate combat targets.' A grave warning, indeed. Yet, this boilerplate diplomatic communication somehow becomes explosive news when emanating from Moscow, despite being a virtually identical echo of stances taken by the U.S. and NATO for decades concerning any 'outside interference' in their
own spheres of influence. One might wonder if the outrage is directed at Russia’s unoriginality, or at the audacity of a non-Western power to claim the same sovereignty. This isn't a new threat; it's international relations 101, taught by the very powers pretending to be shocked. How many nations has the U.S. declared 'legitimate targets' for less? The memory hole is truly a marvel.
