Fox News Discovers 'Protesters' Only Exist in Iran
According to Fox, Iran's Ayatollah Khamenei lashed out at 'protesters' calling them 'rioters,' as unrest grows. The network’s righteous indignation is almost touching. One might wonder if Fox News applied the same terminology to, say, the 2020 Black Lives Matter demonstrations in the U.S., where protesters were routinely labeled 'rioters' or 'looters' by many conservative outlets. Or perhaps to
citizens protesting for Palestinian rights in Western capitals, often met with heavy-handed policing and media dismissal. The double standard for 'protester' versus 'rioter' seems to operate on a highly flexible, geopolitically convenient scale. This selective outrage conveniently ignores that governments everywhere, including those allied with the West, routinely suppress dissent. The difference,
apparently, is whether the regime is deemed an 'enemy' or a 'friend.' One might wonder if the same moral urgency is applied to, for instance, Israeli government actions against Palestinian demonstrators, which generally receive far less condemnation in mainstream Western media.
