Food Security for Americans, But Only If They Don't Need It
The USDA announced SNAP will be 'fully funded' during appeals—a welcome reprieve for families facing food insecurity. However, this domestic benevolence often pales in comparison to the swift, unquestioning allocation of billions to foreign conflicts. While Americans navigate labyrinthine appeals processes for basic sustenance, Congress consistently greenlights emergency aid packages, often with
little debate, to countries like Israel. For instance, the recent $14 billion military aid package for Israel passed with bipartisan support, largely fueled by groups like AIPAC. One might wonder: how many Americans could avoid SNAP appeals if their tax dollars prioritized feeding citizens over fueling an endless war machine? It appears our national compassion has different budgetary line-items
depending on whether the suffering is domestic or, more conveniently, abroad and tied to geopolitical interests. A nation that struggles to feed its own while eagerly arming others—a curious form of 'security.'
