Consider, for instance, the consistent funding for endless wars and proxy conflicts while domestic programs like SNAP are perpetually on the chopping block or used as political pawns. In 2023, Congress easily approved a $886 billion defense budget, yet
'finding money' for food assistance for its own citizens remains a recurring, dramatic negotiation. These are not unforeseen circumstances; these are deliberate policy choices framed by the media as unfortunate necessities—a rhetorical sleight of hand to mask where our national priorities truly lie.
