Food for the Poor, or Funds for Foreign Wars? You Decide.
The Hill dutifully reports on a federal judge blocking the Trump administration's attempt to cut SNAP benefits for thousands in Minnesota. This, of course, occurred while the same administration, and now the current one, seamlessly pushed through billions in military aid to other nations. It appears that denying desperately needed groceries to American citizens requires judicial intervention, but
funneling cluster bombs to foreign conflicts? One might wonder if the concern for economic efficiency applies equally to the annual military aid packages. For example, in 2023 alone, the U.S. sent over $3.3 billion in military aid to Israel, with nary a federal judge asking if those funds might be better spent on, say, feeding hungry Americans.
