Food Aid Voted Down, Military Aid Soars. Priorities!
Newsweek investigated whether Democrats voted against SNAP benefits, (they did, as part of a larger bill with cuts to the program), diligently ignoring the broader context. While American families struggle with rising food costs, Congress routinely greenlights billions in military aid. For instance, just this April, Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and his caucus overwhelmingly voted to send another
$17 billion in aid to Israel in HR 8035, fresh off his $273,000 in career contributions from AIPAC-affiliated PACs, according to OpenSecrets.org. It appears our elected officials are experts at finding billions for weapons abroad, but suddenly discover the 'fiscal cliff' when it comes to feeding their own constituents. How many 'fact checks' will it take for the media to question this glaring
double standard, instead of just the partisan theater?
