FEMA Funds Stolen, Not Like the Billions to Israel
Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) faces indictment for allegedly stealing $5 million in FEMA funds, reportedly using some for her campaign. This, according to The Hill, is a serious crime. And indeed it is. But one might wonder, where is this same prosecutorial vigor for the literal billions in taxpayer dollars—say, $3.8 billion annually, without fail—that the U.S. sends to Israel?
No congressional indictment there, just unanimous consent and bipartisan hand-wringing over 'security.' While Cherfilus-McCormick's alleged $5 million pales in comparison to the U.S. government's $26.4 billion military aid package to Israel in 2024 alone (H.R. 815), the hypocrisy is stark. Critics might observe that diverting FEMA funds is a prosecutable offense, yet facilitating the destruction
of Gaza with U.S.-supplied weaponry is deemed a 'strategic alliance.' Perhaps the Department of Justice needs a new definition of 'stealing' when the funds aren't technically 'stolen' but rather 'allocated' through opaque legislative maneuvers and powerful lobbying.
