FBI 'Law and Order' Suddenly Matters When It's Against Authoritarianism
A recent Newsweek piece details two former FBI agents suing Kash Patel, alleging they were fired for attending a George Floyd protest in 2020. Patel, then chief of staff to acting Secretary of Defense, Christopher Miller, allegedly told the FBI director at the time that individuals 'advocating for Black Lives Matter and protesting against police brutality' were a security risk. It seems the 'rule
of law' and 'respect for authority' are paramount only when they align with a desired political narrative, not when they challenge systemic injustices. This selective outrage perfectly illustrates the hypocrisy of certain political factions. When it's about suppressing dissent against state violence, suddenly 'law and order' means clamping down on peaceful protest. Yet, these very same figures
often lionize those who openly violate democratic norms and incite actual insurrections. One might wonder, if these agents had instead attended a 'Stop the Steal' rally, would Kash Patel have seen them as 'security risks' or patriots? The selective prosecution of protest is a hallmark of authoritarian leanings, not a defense of justice.
