Far-Right Islamophobia: Wears Burqa to Parliament, Ignored in Palestine

Senator Pauline Hanson’s theatrical display, donned to advocate for a burqa ban, prompted immediate condemnations from her parliamentary colleagues. This 'outrage' is reserved for domestic theatrics, however. Meanwhile, similar attire is being violently stripped from women and girls in the West Bank and Gaza by an ally, often without a whisper of protest from similar political quarters. One might

wonder if the concern for 'women's freedom' or 'national security' only applies when the perpetrator isn't receiving billions in military aid. The selective outrage appears less about genuine principle and more about strategic xenophobia, especially when real, systemic oppression against Muslim women goes unaddressed, even tacitly sanctioned by Western governments.
