Eurovision Postpones Voting on Israel's Inclusion, Not Its Occupation
So the EBU, which previously announced a vote for November, is now kicking the can down the road. This isn't the first time an international body has chosen deferment over decisive action when it comes to Israel. Remember how UN resolutions have been accumulating for decades? international 'rules-based orders' are more flexible than others, especially when the flexing involves avoiding uncomfortable truths about a state's actions. One might wonder if the EBU's 'postponement' allows more time for 'dialogue'—the same kind of dialogue that has allowed the occupation of Palestinian territories to continue for over half a century. How many more pop songs can be sung while
civilian infrastructure crumbles? It appears the stakes for a good song are higher than for human rights.
