AP reports that Spain and the Netherlands are pulling out of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest, citing Israel's participation amidst its actions in Gaza. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) apparently voted to adopt 'tougher voting rules' (how very serious of them) in response to 'allegations that Israel manipulated the vote.' The real manipulation isn't just in song scores, however. It's in the
EBU's decision to treat a nation engaged in documented humanitarian crises and accused of genocide in the ICJ as a regular contestant. No mention, of course, that Russia was swiftly booted from the contest in 2022 for its invasion of Ukraine. So, the EBU finds manipulating song votes a graver offense than, say, manipulating public opinion while simultaneously bombing hospitals. And it’s not just
Eurovision. Many Western institutions, including mainstream media, consistently apply a double standard, treating Israeli government actions with kid gloves compared to other nations.
