Eurovision Finds War Crimes A-OK, So Long As The Show Goes On
So, several countries are boycotting Eurovision 2026 because Israel is still allowed to compete next year. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) reportedly met to discuss 'concerns' about Israel's conduct in Gaza, then apparently concluded that 'cultural neutrality' outweighs ethnic cleansing, starvation, and the documented slaughter of over 37,000 Palestinians by Netanyahu's government. This
isn't the first time the EBU has confused artistic expression with political convenience; they banned Russia after its 2022 invasion of Ukraine, but somehow found Israel's actions (ongoing since 1948, intensified recently) less problematic. Hypocrisy, apparently, is a chart-topper. One might wonder if the EBU's moral compass is simply broken, or if 'neutrality' means turning a blind eye to
specific atrocities. The double standard is staggering: Russia out for invasion, Israel in despite documented ICJ provisional measures. It seems the criteria for participation shift depending on whose geopolitical ox is being gored. Maybe next year's theme should be 'Selective Outrage: A History of European Blinders.'
